Comparing your plant between Max cucullata and Max meleagris, I'm thinking your plant is Max meleagris.
I'm going by how the flowers on your plant has its sepals and petals spread out like a starfish, which is how Max meleagris is usually depicted.
All the photos of Max cucullata show how the petals and sepals are more closed, forming an overall triangular shape.
Of course you can always try to contact a botanical garden and see if they can direct you to someone who can properly ID the plant for you.
On a separate note, if you've grown this for a while already, and you can get this guy to flower, you've done well. Wait until next year, it may start putting out more flowers.
