Maxillaria camaridii (in bloom)
Presenting the cute and short-lived blooms of Maxillaria camaridii. Its pristeen white crystalline flower with a bright yellow lip opens at night and closes in the morning on the following day. This phenomenon occurs only two days in a row, before the flowers die. Maxillaria camaridii is an epiphyte, which has been found in tropical and subtropical rain forests from Costa Rica to Peru. It seems to prefer a lower light level and it has this fragrant smell. I took a picture of the flower closed cause its daylight...I cant capture the nighttime opening cause I am at work and when I get home I'm just too sleepy...It has six more buds...I will try to capture the opened bloom next time.
