Default Zygopetalum "Kiwi Dusk"

spoils of the show

Cant pass anything up this purple and big. Beautifully grown plant. The flowers are like a velvet sateen. The purple inside the lip cascades down into the darker purple. Quite a bloom...

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that's not a pure Z. maxillaire. The species can be identified by the distinctive calli, which are very large. Moreover, the lip doesn't have a gradient of color, as per the flowers on your plant (image is copyright its original owner).

I think you've got a Galeopetalum, which is an intergeneric hybrid between Zygopetalum and Galeottia. Beautiful plant, though.

I will have to take the ID up with the lady who sells them and ask her again .
I want these to have proper ID no doubt so not to lend to any confusion online. I see now why after doing some exhibit tagging of plants how important it is to have proper identified plants. Some nice looking plants didnt get judged bec someone left them for us to tag with no IDS..Noids dont get graded. They sit under the table . Doesnt have an ID its simple it doesnt get judged..

Thanks You and I will ask about the ID..This was going to the orchid show this week now it sits home.
Thanks Again

It is lovely but I too didn't think it looked like a Z. maxillaire. Too bad about the show but you can still enjoy the plant and its scent!
