My new Zygopetalum noid
Every friday during the open shop evening I go to the garden center to check out the new shipment of orchids. Usually there's only phals and cyms but with Valentine's day coming up they had a ton of other nice plants.
I normally don't like Zygos very much, but this one was calling my name. Paid only 10€ for it, and it has a second spike growing and the pot is busting with roots. The lip is actually more purplish, but with my camera it comes out pink.

It's very pretty, does it also have a fragrance?

Smells flowery, a bit like tulips. Not a very strong scent though, I had to be right next to the plant to smell it.

It's gorgeous Camille,
Just be careful not to get water in the growths, I think that's what caused mine to rot to almost nothing. I'm still nursing the remains back and hoping I don't rot it again.

Gorgeous! I love the dark ones! Smell it again in the early morning. My Zygo's tend to smell the strongest in the early morning and it slopes off the rest of the day. Also, if the flowers have just opened or have been open a long time already, the smell may not be at its fullest. In my experience, Zygo's have the strongest smell a day or two after blooming and it lasts the strongest for the first week or two of blooming.

When I smelled it it was in the morning. Maybe the blooms aren't old enough, I think the oldest one opened Tuesday or wednesday. I'll give it another sniff next weekend (since during the week I'm not home to give it a morning sniff)

I'm not usually home in the mornings on weekdays either. I LOVED being home this weekend since one of my hybrid Zygos is blooming right now and by itself it is fragrancing my entire upstairs. I've got a second who is due to bloom any day now and I can't wait!!!

I really hope the fragrance gets stronger, because it smells so nice!
