Default Blptm Midnight Blue 'Cardinal's Roost'

My first blooms! I bought this one from the wonderful Orchid Gallery of Signal Mountain, TN as a near-blooming size. They predicted it would bloom this coming summer, but here it is brightening up my winter. I'm just so pleased with it. Eight buds on two spikes and every single one is viable - the 8th is just now starting to open.

Yay, lots of wonderful blooms! How are you growing it? I have one, but all the leaves dropped, probably from under watering. I think one of the older stems dried up, but I do have one very fat bright green stem.

I would also like to know how your growing it. Mine hasn't done anything since I bought it in bloom and it too has lost many of its leaves.

It came in sphagnum moss so that's how I've kept it so far. If it outgrows the current pot that might have to change, but for now it seems happy in there. It stays in a southern facing window in my bathroom, but I haven't measured exactly how many foot candles or anything. Hope that helps.

FYI, BOLLOPETALUM (Blptm.) = Bollea × Zygopetalum.

Whew ! That abbrev. went right past me ! Had to search on my abbreviation dictionary compiled by a friend on another forum ! If anyone would like a copy, PM me.

That is just a wonderful show of blooms ! The flowers are big compared to the regular form, you must have fed it well and discovered the correct watering regimen. Even the leaves are lush and clean, no blemish or dark cold water spots
