Hey everyone,

Recently I came accross the Maxillaria Tenuifolia, and went crazy for its coconut scent! Now I want to have the scent all the time, in other words I was wondering if anyone has hybrids on the Tenuifolia that will bloom more often, but still have the coconut scent? Please let me know and if you know of any other orchids that are compact for indoors that smell of coconut, feel free to post!

Thank You,
Tommy

Uh Thanks help? That was helpful... : )

Just wanted to add that I have the hybrid Maxillaria Tenuifolia x Maxillaria Sanguinea I was told it has a coconut scent when in bloom, but it hasn't bloomed yet. I think that the Sanguinea bloom time is more in the Winter to Spring but not sure on that.

Does anyone know: Aren't hybrids supposed to bloom more often? Instead of being seasonal?

Sorry I couldn't be of more help. I commented on that so that it would get bumped up tp the top of the new posts list. And someone you knows the answer to your questions would hopefully comment

Interesting question about hybrids of Maxillaria tenuifolia. But nobody seems to be interested. I also wait patiently every year for this smelly orchid to bloom.

Yes, no one seems to be very interested in this topic, but thanks for the reply Joachim.

Through all my research of this plant I have found that the Maxillaria Tenuifolia Tetraploid blooms more Summer-Fall while the regular one blooms Springtime. Hope this helps anyone who was trying to find out the bloom times like me! There are also crosses out there with Maxillaria Sanguinea that keep the coconut scent, and I have read that those will bloom around Winter-Spring. I look foward to seeing mine bloom! I bought it from Seagroveorchids.com. Thanks for the replies and hope my months of research (yes months) help some of you out there!!!

I love my orchid too, but it's the only one I have. The fragrance drifts through the shadehouse in early mornings.

Mine blooms once a year for the most part.
I've had it about 4+ years.
It may get an occasional confusion and put up two or three flowers off cycle and they smell like coconuts too
Some things in life are too good to have all the time!
