Yup it gets bright light...
I read they are a pain to bloom too. I didn't have this one for a long time so I don't know what to say.

I think I read somewhere a temp drop helps it bud and it should send buds before it sends new pseudobulbs

Lovely!
Job well done

Here's a picture of the one at RF Orchids in Homestead Florida, taken last year on a tour while on the way to the Redlands show...and the entire courtyard smelled like coconut! :

Thanks for the info Fren, it looks really good in that pot. The colour is striking, but I was hoping for slightly larger flowers.

Sue, that is one huge plant! Wonder how old that is.

that plant is a giant, Sue!!!!!!! I wonder how much it weighs!

I brought my plant over to a OSA meeting so everyone could smell (and so they know this young fellow can grow something lol...I think my young age can make me look like a newbie, plus I'm new to the society)...not that I would win a ribbon cuz there was tons of great plants!

To be honest, I never even thought of asking any questions about that plant! I was too busy trying to keep my jaw from hitting the ground as I walked around the RF Orchids property!!! It was fantastic and if any of you ever have the oppoprtunity to visit RF Orchids in Homestead, it will have the same effect on you...no doubt! They have a swimming pool in the center of the yard with a mosaic orchid inlaid into the bottom...stunning!!!

Fren,
I only know what happens in my club but I'm guessing it's the same at others.

As a newbie, new to your society and not having shown plants before [?] you should be classed as a novice..

Therefore you will be 'competing' so to speak with any other novices at your OSA meeting.

And if you are the only novice that brings in something you could win a ribbon!

During the annual show they do have a novice class. During the meetings there isn't one, and there aren't as many classes. I really wasn't expecting any ribbon during the meeting because people do bring in superb plants.

My maxillaria doesn't have a high enough flower count, and I know that it isn't a quaility plant because the sepals are very reflexed, so I would never enter it into the annual show, unless they wanted something to stuff the empty spaces.

It was just a plant to help me mingle with people. And I brought paph deperle along with it, though I knew the society judge wouldn't like the petals on my deperle. I would have brought more paphs but I was out of space in my small box. Plus the spikes can get tall!

I set my expectations high....and I know judges do to. Next meeting I'll have something more impressive if they open on time

Nice Maxi!! And to think it doesn't even look like an orchid without the flowers!!
