A widespread species from the Andes region of South America, Sudamerlycaste fimbriata produces large, waxy blooms that are highly fragrant of honey.
One of these days I'll actually figure out how to flower this species properly. Although it grows easily for me, getting it to retain all of the buds that it produces has been something of a challenge over the last couple of years. The plant initiated approximately eight to nine buds a couple of months ago, but only two of them survived to flower (I got similar results last winter as well). So now I need to figure out what I'm doing wrong. In spite of having only two blooms, they're incredibly fragrant at night, and the scent completely filled my sunroom.
