Lycaste Imschootiana 'Ray' CCM/AOS
Hi all,
This primary hybrid started opening its buds about a week ago...sort of late, but I'm not complaining. Only two flowers open so far, but there are 24 total. I'll post another pic when they're all open...enjoy!

The flowers look like they're made of blown glass.
Is it fragrant?

I've tried smelling them and they do have a slight fragrance...sort of a medicinal evergreen or wintergreen scent.

What a stunning hybrid. What's the parentage?
Henry Oakeley just gave a fantastic talk at our OS this past sunday and I'm now itching to try a mini one that I can fit in my growing space.

Calvin,
The parents of this primary hybrid are cruenta and skinneri. Cruenta is a more compact plant with smaller flowers, but this hybrid takes after the skinneri parent and is on the larger side. I would have loved to hear Henry Oakeley speak about lycastes...have you read his book? It's very good!
I'd recommend aromatica for a compact plant...it's got nice yellow flowers that have a cinnamon scent too! Good luck!

thanks for the recommendation! I'll have to go find a vendor. Orchids in our tropics carries it I think, but it's a bit too pricey for me

Well, just about all the flowers have opened, except one bud that blasted...
Here's what the plant looked like a couple of days ago...
