I love it the more I look at it. It is like a miniature jungle in a pot.

with all those PB on top... does it need to be misted / showered a lot not just watered at the medium level?

This is grown hanging from a branch of a large macadamia chestnut I have in the background, along with my Draculas, Masdevallias, Lycastes and other intermediate to cool lovers. I use a hose to water these and they get really wet, completely wet, including this Maxillaria!

Is it in sphagnum? do you hose it every day? is it warm all year round where you are or do you have 4 seasons?

Nope, it is in tree fern fiber (or what it has become after 4 years in the same pot). I water this (and the other cold lovers) every other day in the summer slowing down a little (three times a week more or less) in the winter.
Yes, we have four seasons in my area. Summer is rainy and hot and winter is windy and cold. Night temperatures in the winter often fall as down as 44-40º F, sporadically even less than this in the dawn. In the summer, day temps can get as high as 86-91ºF, but the normal is to be around 80-84ºF. Night temps in the summer use to be around 68ºF.

hehe I have something against your definition of "cold winter". 40/44F?? i would sign up for that this winter!

probably if it was 44 here in January i would go to the beach!
Probably the temperature where you are are comparable in the USA to northern Florida / southern Georgia maybe.
great plant! thanks for the advice!
How much light do you give to your Maxillaria? hope my small one will bloom this spring!
