It's gorgeous. I'm afraid I know nothing about them though.

It's lovely
I'm far from an expert on zygos - but it's my understanding they like similar culture to cyms, cool and moist, maybe a bit less light. I haven't rebloomed mine so will defer to anyone with more experience growing them

Very fragrant, you can smell through the house. I't a bit ironic because I put back a green hornet because someone said it was fragrant and I wasn't sure if it would stir up my asthma and on the way home the Zygo smell filled the car - so far so good. Now if I could just get me cat to stop chewing the leaves.

Hi Maree,

The Basic Zygopetalum Culture from WhiteRabbit is the best general advice that I've seen and I've been collecting Zygo plants and advice for many years. I "saved" an earlier version into document form a few years ago.

Keep in mind that your conditions may vary considerably. You may need to modify the "Basic Z Culture". Monitor your plant(s) carefully to see how they respond to the strategy that you choose. What works well in some parts of Calif doesn't necessarily apply elsewhere/here.

p.s.
Try Bitter Apple spray on your Zygo leaves. It works very well for me. I've been using it successfully on orchids and bromeliads for 20 years without any incidents to the plants or the cats (dogs, too).

Cats learn VERY quickly not to bother!

Thank you stitz, she chews right through the Bitter Apple. I even made a mix of dish detergent, water and hot sauce. I decided it's too much of a fight, so I put my new orchids on my orchid table instead of my desk which is out of reach for my cat.
It says you are from Maryland - I grown my orchids in a southern window. My phals behind a cotton drape. My catts, onch, brassia, zygo and massie about 2 feet from a bay window, no drape. I would love to hear how you are so successful with the Zygo. Anything you have not had success with? Thanks much for you help.
