Default Odd place for a Promenaea spike?

So, in all the reading I've done, all I ever read is that a Promenaea's inflorescence grows from the base of the pseudobulb. I have a Prom hybrid, Meadow Gold, and it looks to me like maybe it is sending out a little bud...

...from the top of a pseudobulb?! This would be the first time I've ever bloomed a Prom, so I don't know for sure that what I'm looking at is a bud/spike. But I don't know what else it could be. It's roundish and pointy. And definitely not like a new root tip.

Are there some Proms that have apical instead of basal spikes??

I'll try to post a picture shortly, but it is very very tiny at the moment.

Yvan,

Can you send a pic? It isn't uncommon for Promenaea (and other Maxillaria type orchids) to send new growth, not flowers, from the top of a mature pseudobulb. Maintaining good humidity will help any new growth to thrive.

Hi! Pics are loading from camera onto my computer as I type. Here's the thing though...This is growing from an old pseudobulb, not one that has most recently grown. The plant has a total of 5 pseudobulbs, and this is growing from the next to oldest. Also, that pseudobulb (as you'll see from the pics) dropped its leaves shortly after I received it last year. (It had a bit of a rough transition into my growing environment, but has been doing great for a while now.)

So...it still seems odd to me...Photo is now attached! Sorry too , I couldn't get any more of a close-up without it being way to blurry.

Thanks for the foto, Yvan. I think that you can expect to see a new vegetative growth. Please, update us as you see progress!

Don't have a photo yet to include, but thought I'd post an update to this thread. The growth in question is definitely vegetative. In fact, I'd call it a keiki. In addition to the expanding little pseudobulb/leaf growth, there are little roots squeezing out all over. It looks very odd on top of the older pseudobulb. Will try and post a photo tomorrow.

Yvan,

Currently, I have a Lycaste lasioglossa and a Zygopetalum crinitum doing the same thing as previously described. It isn't the norm however, it happens often enough that it shouldn't be a big surprise.
