While Ive never grown Anguloa, Ive never met an orchid that needed water when it wasnt growing! My guess (and this is only a guess!) is that if you see significant shriveling of the bulbs then you should add water. If no shriveling, no extra water is needed!

Henry Oakeley writes in his new book, Lycaste, Ida and Anguloa:
"....Anguloas are primarily terrestrial, and grow in leaf litter and other forest detritus. I have seen them growing well in ordinary dark loamy garden soil in Venezuela as pot plants. I grow them in a 50/50 mix of Perlite and chopped sphagnum moss, keeping them wet throughout the growing season and dry after the bulbs have formed completely. Watering is resumed when the buds and new growths appear, after a few months' rest."

Steve, I don't think that this should be an automatic response. Some Lycaste species' pseudobulbs will shrivel dramatically during the "dry season".
Poorly timed watering might interrupt a routine dormant period sending the plant into premature growth before the climate provides timely support.

Thanks for the advice! Ive got several Lycastes that are dormant right now. My macrophylla tends to shrivel the most, should I not water it and let the bulbs "pancake?" Thanks for any help Stitz, and I appologize to Beto for the thread highjack!!

Steve, I have only grown Lyc macrophylla in my collection for about two years. I will only add what I've learned from others.
I have learned that macrophylla should NOT be treated severely. Oakeley wrote recently, "Plants which are not deciduous should not 'be allowed to become quite dry', but will require less water than when growing actively."

Ok, wheew! This is the one that I have been hesitant to let shrivel more than even a little. Thanks!

I'll be looking for these fotos! I have Anguloa clowesii and also A. virginalis. I also have two complex hybrids with A. clowesii in the pedigree.
