Steve, I have only grown Lyc macrophylla in my collection for about two years. I will only add what I've learned from others.
I have learned that macrophylla should NOT be treated severely. Oakeley wrote recently, "Plants which are not deciduous should not 'be allowed to become quite dry', but will require less water than when growing actively."
