I've been sitting here, staring at this pic for the last 5 minutes, Mike. I think I remember when you got this...wasn't it at an orchid fair, the vendor was holding it for someone who never came back for it? Or, you had to get to the show early to claim it?
I would have been standing there waiting for the doors to open for this one.
Words fail when a pic like this, says it all.

Mayres,
Beautiful plant in a stunning photograph! Wow!!! I think you might want to consider using this image as an entrant in the calander contest next year.
Is it fragrant like a lot of the other petalum type plants I've seen? If it's not, it sure looks like it should be.

Congratulations. That is a gorgeous flower.
I noticed this plant for sale by an online grower and searched OrchidBoard forum hoping that someone had some experience with that little beauty.
Can you tell us if the basic culture is similar to zygopetalum, and if it's fragrant?
I'm really tempted to give it a try. I seem to be having good luck with a zygo and a promenaea that I purchased earlier this summer. They haven't flowered yet, but are growing well, so I think I would have the right conditions for another orchid that likes my set up.
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Jessica - Truthfully I have not noticed if it is fragrant or not - currently I have been growing it outdoors for the summer and it welcomes me at the edge of my driveway as I come home and leave each day. It is a fairly mature plant - the root system is massive (kind of reminds you of a cym) and there are a lot of leafless pseudobulbs along with 6-7 that do have leaves. It is currently growing in a 8 inch pot. It is supposed to be easier to bloom than a zygo. With my limited experience I'd say if you can do zygo's you'll have no problem with these. Go for it!
Sandy - you have a phenomenal memory! You got the right plant but slightly different twist - the vendor was supposed to be holding it for me, but sold it to someone else - I arrived just in time to cry "wolf" - and the earlier purchaser already had so many plants that he didn't mind reselling it back to me. Lucky me!
