Zygo roots- help?
Hello all,
I got a zygo over awhile back, it was potted in some small bark-
Now I am curious what color are the healthy roots, what color are the dead roots and does anyone have any pictures to help me know which direction I need to take-
I've already repotted into coconut husk but for some reason Im seeing some like mold/fungus spores and some of the roots are turning grey and others brownish.
Thanks!

I hadn't seen this post, but if you are still interested, mine are white roots. I let mine dry out totally before wetting again. Seems to work. What's happening with yours now? Did yours get better?

No I never got my question answered--lol
I'd appreciate some pics kiki if you can
Mine is pushing lots of new growth since the older roots hate me and my new environment-
im starting to see the sign of some new root growth, most of the older growth is like greyish and some is shriveled, would it be good to cut it all off or just wait till the new roots establish, i dont know-

Here is my one and only zygo. I watered two days ago, so you may see some beads in the pot still. I keep her quite dry usually. Hope this helps.
Can't answer your question about cutting without pics also.

kiki, your plant looks quite happy compared to mine i'll try to get pictures tomorrow to show you how the old bulbs are basically shriveling to death and the new ones pushing on out cause the roots are mostly shot,
I have mine in coconut husk I heard that retains more water, bark dries out so fast for me-

Here's some photos of my Zygo, the first one was when I first got it. The other 3 was after I re-potted it. I've already given up hope on it until I found these new roots and growth.

Now that I think of it, mine seem to shrivel some before it started to perk up and bloom for the second time. It's been in limbo again for a while. Perhaps it's going to do something as it is looking better lately. Maybe that's their MO. Thanks for the photos Marissa.

Cookiemonster,
Good healthy Zygo roots will be white. It is not unusual for older roots to die and rot. However, if the plant is in active growth, new roots will form rapidly on the new growths. By the way, Zygos seem to be very easy to propagate new plants from single back bulbs if you are interested in having more than one of the same plant. CHC seems to be a good growing media for Zygos. Also, note that in the pictures sent that the base of the bulbs are somewhat above the media. For some reason, these plants seem very prone to rot if the base of the plant stays wet (been there, done that).
