Default Max. richii cultivation

Does anyone growth this species. The cultural information on Orchid Wiz is not helpful and Ecuagenera only gives cool-intermediate temps and intermediate sun.

The plant was given to me and was in pretty bad shape. I put it in sphag/tree fern, 2" clay pot, put it in front of my cooler wall, sun from midafternoon through 50% shade cloth. One dead pbulb appears to have a new growth starting and one of the pbulbs with leaves is pushing a spike.

Any advice will be appreciated.

Brooke

I see you have had 23 or so visitors and surprised that no-one seems to have one or can give you some help. Well, I'm sorry to say neither can I. I wish you the best with it and give it some TLC and maybe a song or two would help. Good luck.

Don

Sorry Don, if I sing to it I guarantee it will shrivel up and die - LOL!

The spike on it is growing so that's a good thing I guess. I was hoping someone else had grown this and could tell me the watering needs for it during the winter. Moist? Dry? Cool it down? Keep it warm-ish?

I guess I'll play it by ear and hope it lives through the winter in my care.

Maxillaria richii - Orchids Wiki

It's such a cutie

Perhaps contacting and questioning the vendor would help

Thanks for the googles Dorothy - the Wiki did offer a little more info than I had found elsewhere regarding winter care.

The plant was given to me with the Ecuagenera label still on it so will talk to them in a couple of weeks at the MAOC since they will be vendoring there.
