Anguloa eburnum and cliftonii

New Anguloas from Ecuagenera: cliftonii and eburnum. Potted them up in a mix of bark and perlite with a small quantity of coconut coir potting soil mix and spagnum- trying for a well-draining terrestrial mix. I think it is too cold to put them outside (45 at night right now) so they are hanging out under the lights.

Any advice for keeping these guys alive?

I looked these up, both are moderately high elevation. So once nights get up to 55 deg F. or so they can move outside. Once they have had a chance to acclimate, next fall they can stay outside into the low 40's F. Growing outside and chilly, my Anguloas tend to be deciduous. if growning warmer they may not lose their leaves. Yes, they pretty much grow like Lycastes.

Thanks Roberta, it is good to know what minimum temp to look for. They have been inside, and they both put out new growths about a month ago.

Your plants look very good, and when they are this big they don't flower until next year.

However, I would add an element that maintains more humidity on the surface and in the middle. According to Dr. Oakley, Anguloas have roots that are very susceptible to drought. Not even I use such a thick mixture in my cultivation. A good layer of fresh moss on the surface will help you a lot.

I've grown Anguloa clowesii. I would have used a much larger pot. These quickly develop a root system to rival a robust Cymbidium. When that is making new growth you'll need to water daily.

The main potting mix is a mix of terrestrial coco-coir based mix and bark, although the top layer is just bark. I added a spag layer at your suggestion.

You are certainly right. If it gets to it I’ll probably gently drop it in a new pot, breaking away the side where the bulb needs to expand.
