Tying / Cutting Lycaste and Anguloa Leaves, and other myths (?)

Hello everyone, Happy Growing

I've been researching ways to improve my Lycaste and Anguloas growing, I even used translators to look for growing pages in other languages XD

I found these two pages in Japanese, one of them specifies the cultivation of Lycaste and mentions that when the bud matures and the leaves separate, it is best to tie them (to avoid infection from cuts or mechanical damage).

In another part (I can't remember where XD) I heard that once the Lycaste buds mature, it's best to tie the leaves so that the sunlight reaches the base of the bulb (?).

I have also heard that when growing Anguloas and Lycastes it is good to orient them towards the western sun.

What do you think?

First, you do need to specify which Lycastes. They don't all want the same culture. There's a group of yellow-green ones that are deciduous, flower in late spring/early summer then grow leaves, which want less water in winter. The larger flowered ones I water all year. I am sure that the Japanese growers who have produced some fantastic large, round, colorful hybrids (based on Lyc. virginalis) have refined the culture far beyond what I could even imagine. Some of the Anguloas like to be a little warmer, but not all - again, get down to the species level. You can't generalize for either genus. And species vs hybrids also different.
