The best place to look for info on Brazilian species of Zygopetalum is Flora Brasilica, Stitz. F.C. Hoehne was and still is one of the most respected taxonomists for his monumental work, especially on orchids. Volume XII of his Flora Brasilica, pp 95-115, brings detailed info on Zygopetalum species, with pp 99-100 bringing a key for those known by then (1950). Also, several varieties inside species are mentioned and this is of great help for the identification job. Since that time just a few new species have been described and this fact still makes Flora Brasilica the best place to look for info on this genus. The book has been written in Portuguese and I don't know whether it is availabe in English, or not. Species included in the key are Z. mosenianum Barb. Rodr, maxillare Lodd., graminifolium Rolfe, sellowii Reichb. f., microphytum Barb. Rodr., crinitum Lodd., mackayi Hook., intermedium Lodd., bolivianum Schltr., brachypetalum Lindl., burkey Reichb. f. and triste Barb. Rodr.
