cannot provide advice but I can just say your plant is very nice :) and that's coming from me, who normally does not like Zygos & Co... ;)

Thanks kavanaru & Dorothy!! Glad at least you Likey ;) I don't know why nobody else likes Zygos?

kiki-do 05-05-2008 08:25 AM

I have a Zygo and I don't know alot about them, but I water it well and let it dry out thoroughly before rewatering. I mist the roots ocassionally. According to my book, they like bright light but be careful of hot midday sun.
They need a well draining medium and like to be repotted every couple years. They tolerate summer heat as long as they can cool down in the evening. I treat my feeding as I do with all the others. My book says high nitrogen fertilizers from Feb to July, then low nitrogen fertilizers from August til Jan.
Unfortunately I have so many orchids that I don't pay special attention to this one and she still gives me beautiful blooms like clockwork. I love the pics of your plants, by the way. She is a cutie! :)

Thanks Kiki!! Appreciate the Kudo's!! And all the Info!! Glad you have one too!!

And what the name of the book you are getting info from? I'm looking for the best book for ALL of Us, that gives great info on what were all growing!

Thanks!
Jackie

Oh wow, I can't remember. What I do is research the new orchid then make notes for my notebook I keep on all my babies. I have a picture of it when I bought it, plus a photocopy of what it will look like if it's not already in bloom....next to lots of information about it, that I write down of all it's needs on a paper next to the picture. I also make a "cheatsheet" that I have close to the plant until I feel I am familiar with it.
Hmmm, I may have got info off the internet or from my Flora's Orchids book. That is one of my favorite books along with Orchid Growing for Wimps. That one gives you plenty of good basic knowledge in an easy to understand manner. Those are two of my favorites, but I have several. :)

Thanks Kiki!! I will start looking for them ;)

It's a beauty! Would it be a cool grower?

shams 05-05-2008 02:37 PM

I see the pictures now! :D It's really nice! I want to try a Zygo too... but haven't a clue on the culture... sorry :(

Your Zygoneria is so pretty! I just love the color of the flowers! I would love to have one one day but I heard they get kind of big. I grow under lights so space is limited. :_( Meanwhile I can drool over your pics!

Thanks.

Everyone already beat me to the punch, LOL.

From my experience, this particular hybrid tends to be very susceptible to leaf spotting, so you may want to keep an eye out for that. Other than that, it should be almost trouble free. These guys grow without abandon (if you take good care of it, don't be surprised to find multiple leads growing in one season).

These Zygoneria threads are making me miss my late plant. I want to start from scratch with a new plant, but I can't find one. :bua:
