Beautiful blooms! Really is a great shade of purple.
Murasaki komachi roughly translates to "purple beauty" in Japanese, where "murasaki" means purple and "Komachi" is a moniker given to beautiful women after the legendary poet, Ms. Komachi of the Ono region who was known for her extraordinary beauty (and her poetry of course).
I'd say it's a perfect name.

I don’t know how I missed this thread.
I don’t think it’s necessary to do a post-feeding flush if your fertilizer concentration is low to start with.
I always grew zygos and a few hybrids in S/H culture, watering them with 25 ppm N K-Lite in RO - sometimes as often as daily. I never flushed...

Jeff- very cool info!!!
Dolly, I'll happily take all ugly back bulbs and such from you....the first ones are spiking!! whoop whoop
i supplement mine with hose water when it is not raining (winter) and they are a little bit spotty, i always just assumed it was just being outside as most "leafy" type leaves here are a little beat up from various attacks

In the last couple months, I've been experimenting with time release. My zygo's foliage is very discolored. I wonder if different plants in that family respond differently to it? I will say, DC, it grows like a beast! I'm thinking of dividing it and going back to bark. Sort of an experiment. I'll be happy to send my cast offs.
As to this plant, the foliage is clean and it's growing exactly the same way. As is my Rhein Moonlight. IDK.

The flowers are very pretty!
I grew some of these for a time but the leaves just got me...same with Oncidiums. I ended up giving them away. Since orchids are out of bloom most of the year, I like the leaves to at least look decent. Someone in our orchid society swears by spraying the leaves with Listerine but I haven't tried it.

I've done the Listerine thing. Dr. Rob tells me sometimes he uses windex. I think you have to be more vigilant than I am. We all here sir circulation but, I run a ceiling fan on high in the sunroom and in my greenhouse window the fan blows right on them. My foliage still is spotted.

It doesn't seem to hurt them, though. Your flowers are always very lovely.
