Lycaste aromatica

Beautiful plant, I was excited because mine has 3 flowers this year, then I saw yours....

Mine looks slightly different from yours, also mine didn’t drop it’s leaves. Worst of all it doesn’t seem to have any fragrance at all.

I only have one new growth but my p-bulbs are pretty large, so I think it was a division of a mature plant. Hopefully it will fill in more like yours in the future.

Those flowers look awfully large for Lycaste Aromatica. Maybe another Lycaste species?

Hmmm I know that there are non-deciduous lycastes. But I also think I've heard that the yellow ones are the deciduous ones lol

When I saw how different my flowers looked, I was thinking mine might be a different variety but maybe it was mislabeled.

Kind of disappointing since the main reason I purchased it was because of the fragrance.

Did the flowers open with green sepals and then turn yellow? Or were they yellow to begin with? There's a whole group of Lycastes that bloom on the bare pseudobulbs, with yellow petals and greenish sepals. If it was yellow to begin with, it is also possible that it is a hybrid with Lyc. aromatica (or one of those close relatives) strongly in the background but something else causing it to not be completely deciduous, and with a more clear yellow color.

Sorry for hijacking your thread Hypostatic, but...

They were yellow from the start, even in bud stage.

I looked up images for Lycaste cruenta and it dose look like a match, maybe I'll just call it that from now on and put aromatica back on the wish list.

The description for cruenta on Andy's says "very fragrant", so I'm not too sure that's the correct ID

I put it into a bigger pot to allow for more growth. It was overgrowing the previous pot, and I had to keep cutting away at the plastic to allow the new bulbs to grow in.
