Hello from SouthFlorida...
Default Hello from SouthFlorida...

Just wanted to say hello. I'm new to the board and new to orchids. I recently rescued a boatload of orchids from a friend's backyard makeover. This, of course, forced me to research and read which, of course, led to a heightened curiosity which, of course, has led to several purchases.

I now have several vandas, several dens, 2 cats, 4 phals, 1 epidendrum, 1 grammataphyllum, and 1 what I believe to be encyclia.

Everything is growing outside under or very near my huge mango tree, either mounted to the tree, hanging bare-rooted, in hanging wood baskets, or bare-rooted in a birdcage.

Everything is potted in bark, except the phals have some sphagnum moss mixed in for moisture retention. (This is not working out really well as I swear they are all bone dry every evening.)

Not surprisingly, my current struggles are with lighting and watering. I have a ton of questions regarding this, but I need ot figure out how this board works, first!

I'm happy to be here, surrounded by knowledgable people. Hopefully there are some SoFlo residents hanging about who can help guide me away from the darkside.

Sorry for the lengthy hello...I'm just excited to be here.

Welcome! You've come to the right place. Don't hesitate to ask questions, whether they're about orchids or how the board works. And, yes, I'm sure we have quite a few Florida members.

Welcome and yes!! Don't feel bad about asking questions! When I joined, I think I did only one or two posts off the bat because I was worried about doing too many all at once...then I finally got a little more comfortable...and desperate...and started posting tons of questions constantly! Everyday there for awhile! Now I have started doing less but still will randomly do many posts at once!

My point, Don't feel bad about asking anything or a lot of questions! These guys are just awesome and always seem willing to help!
