Default Hello from Sarasota

First time on a forum. Will be rusty at first. I have an acre in Sarasota stocked with whatever I could buy at Selby Gardens here in Sarasota. In that lived LOL. So got lots of questions. One of my beloved orchids has a nasty disease on it. Can't seem to find any answers to it I'm hoping a couple pics on this will help in finding a solution.

It looks like edema. Hard and scabby, right? If so, most likely edema. It's basically the plant absorbing more water than it can use. Watering early in the day can help prevent it.

It's unsightly but won't harm the catt.

Welcome to the board, Jory. I don't have enough experience to offer an opinion on what's wrong with your plant, but aside from those markings on the leaves, it looks very healthy. Katrina is someone whose opinion I would trust, and hopefully others will be posting after the Thanksgiving holiday.

Thanks Mountaineer. I believe Katrina nailed it on the head. Edema what a relief. It isn't worse.

To expand a little bit, Jory, you're from Florida, land of high temps and high humidity. In Arizona and most of the Southwest, temps can get very high, but the humidity is usually very low. For many people -- I'm definitely one of them -- high temps plus high humidity can be very uncomfortable. On the other hand, higher temps are more tolerable if they are accompanied by low humidity.

So, yes, even though temps can often be in triple digits in the Southwest in the summertime, it's a lot more tolerable than the same temp with higher humidity. It's kind of a running joke that going through a 115-degree day is no problem, because "It's a dry heat."

I've visited the Southwest many times, and I love the low humidity, but 115 is still hot, too hot for me to be comfortable. But I can say I would take 100 degrees with 10 percent humidity any day over 85 degrees with 75 percent humidity.
