Hello OB
Well I am not a newbie by any stretch but have been lurking and throwing a few couple of cents in, here and there. I figured I may as well introduce myself.
Long time orchid grower from South Florida (initially) but currently in the North Florida portion of the state.
Climate is different and I went from sub-tropical to temperate. We see low 20's and high teens in Fahrenheit regularly and this obviously requires protection for orchid and I had not planned to build greenhouse up here. I have had as many as 1000 orchids in SoFla in 2 greenhouses and many plants landscaped around my property and sold/gave away all but a couple of scraps. Been in the orchid world for 30+ years. I have grown pretty much all that can be grown in the heat of South Florida except paphs and phrags... not my thing.
Just when I thought I was out of the orchid world I decided to go to redlands show in May and got hooked again. So here I am back in and neck deep and will have to figure out what to do this fall about weather protection for my plants.
I am a sparse poster, I only post if I can offer substantial info that I have personal experience and knowledge of that has not already been beaten down by others. I have not posted any pictures of my plants yet. That will change soon.
Thank you for the opportunity to share with others, had been a long time poster on the now defunct Orchid source forum and unfortunately a lot of my pictures died with it.
