Default Hello From San Diego!``

My Name is Priz, I am relatively new to growing orchids. My first orchid was a NOID white Phal my mom gave me for my birthday, the poor thing died, I am not sure as of why, but I wasn'r educated on caring for it, so it think overwatering did the trick And the years passed...

Last year I got another NOID phal who almost suffered the same faith as my first one because it came potted in moss and suffered from medium root rot, is not potted in bark, but I'm considering repotting in s/h, I hope it recovers

My third orchid is a Sogo Beach Phal that is still on bloom and seems to have a very healthy root system, I am really being careful with this one!

Well this is a little about me, I am happy to be joining and look forward to learn about ORchids!

Wecome Priz! I'm sure Orchid Board will help you keep your new orchid alive and well! That overwatering thing is a killer! I think we all have done it at one time or another. I now repot all my 'chids as soon as they come home. Too many bad things have happened to me. Have fun browsing around on here and feel to post any questions you may have.

Welcome to the OB! Here's a link to a care sheet for you phals! I found that mine like less light than my cattleyas do and the moss isn't a HORRIBLE thing as long as you keep an eye on the waterings!

Have fun!

Priz
Glad you have joined us at the OB
S/H is not a cure for an ailing orchid .. in fact, in order for S/H to be a great success .. the plant should be in an active growth cycle ..

Welcome Priz. I also have killed my share or Phals and others in my quest to learn more. You just have to adopt the attitude - "Oh well, another one died to teach me what not to do"

Wink

Oh Ross! is to hard to see them suffer , but as you said, I might as well learn from the experience.

As promised here are a couple of my 2 phals, the Sogo Beach (first 3 pics), that is still in bloom and looks healty to me, and my NOID phal (white petals with deep purple spots, dalmatian like) which no longer is and is kind of aching , I am repotting in s/h I just got my starter kit from Frist Rays, so I'll keep you updated .
