Hello from Australia!
Hi!
I joined a little while ago but it seems I haven't properly introduced myself in this hello forum yet.
I'm a relatively new grower in coastal subtropic Australia. I ended up in the world of orchids rather suddenly when my grandmother passed away and left behind a small greenhouse of orchids that had belonged to my grandfather. Some family and I wanted to keep them going in her memory.... but we didn't know how. To help with that, we joined a local orchid society - and the people there were amazing. Not just knowledgeable, but happy to share that knowledge with hands on potting demonstrations and product recommendations/supply, etc. Really lovely people!
So my shared collection is mostly cattleyas and dendrobiums. Or it was... I have since discovered the sheer range of plants you can find at the local orchid shows and the collection has grown to include a rather odd assortment of mostly species plants (apparently I shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a bench of reasonably priced bulbophyllums). I've also been the happy recipient of a number of stunning gift plants of high quality and beauty (from the orchid society raffles and members).
And that's about it for now! As a new-ish grower, I've got plenty of questions but I'm guessing those belong in other specific forum areas for that. Happy to meet fellow orchid enthusiasts out there!
