Greetings from Atlanta, Georgia
Long, long time reader of this forum off and on over the years. Been growing plants of many varieties, including orchids, for more than 40 years. Amature hybridizer who dabbles here and there including making some of my own orchid crosses.
I am usually a self employed artist and sometimes art and jewelry instructor. I own a couple of horses, ride motorcycles, enjoy hiking, leather working, and lots of plants. I recently downsized my collection from nearly 4,000 plants to about a thousand. Other things I grow include coffee and cinnamon trees, gesneriads, adenium, and orchids of course. Currently we are working on relocating from the Atlanta/Athens Georgia area up to western North Carolina near to Asheville.
Finally joining this board because I'd like to get learn a lot more about phalaenopsis genetics for my dabbling in hybridizing. Formerly a member of the American Orchid Society when I was younger but I haven't kept up my membership over the years.
Much of my plant collection and other interests can be viewed at: Ornery Pony Studio (ornerypony) on Pinterest and if anyone wants to bother, I'm also on Facebook.

Goodness! That is some collection you have! And I am drooling over those African Violets and Hibiscuses on your Pinterest. Good to have you on the board. I always like seeing what the more experienced growers are up to.

Thank you. My plants are not as happy as they could be with most of them stuck in my MiL's basement while we relocate. I miss my art studio and am eager to close on the log cabin we are buying so we can begin moving up to NC. Be a while though before I'll have a greenhouse put up but we'll see how the year progresses.

Hi, and welcome to Orchidboard!
I understand you will be transitioning out of Georgia, and into North Carolina, but if you have an interest, you would be welcome to join us at the Northeast Georgia Orchid Society (NGOS). Most months, we meet in the conservatory of the State Botanical Garden of Georgia, 2:00 pm on the third Sunday each month. In February, NGOS assists the State Botanical garden with Orchid Madness at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia in lieu of a meeting.
We are a small informal club, and at present, NGOS is not AOS affiliated. There are no dues - everybody welcome. If you like, send an e-mail to northeastgaorchidsociety (at) gmail.com and we will add you to our mailing list for club-related announcements.

Thank you, Neil. I may try to stop in if time allows before our move. I did sit in on a meeting of the Atlanta Orchid Society last year but as I do no longer have a membership to the ABG, it's pretty costly for me to drop by often.
Now Athens is a long drive for me now (about two hours each way) though that's where I am moving from. I loved the test gardens there especially. I tried several times to get meeting info/times from the Northeast Georgia Orchid Society Facebook page last year but mostly had no response, alas.

O. O.
Sorry for the Facebook page problems. I personally do not use Facebook, and before my time as NGOS president, the person that used to administrate the Facebook page moved out-of-state and all of the Facebook log-in and administrator information was forgotten. We recovered that information, and another member will take over posting to that Facebook page, hopefully later this month.
There is a NGOS sub-forum on Orchidboard, and I will be posting information on NGOS meetings and activities to that page: http://www.orchidboard.com/community/georgia-ngos/
FWIW, sorry to disappoint, but I am not Neil deGrasse Tyson. He is an astrophysicist, and, IMO, one of the best science educators and communicators of our time. As a young scientist, he and Carl Sagan (also a great science communicator) were friends. The statement at the end of my posts is one my favorite quotes from Dr. Tyson.

Haha, duly noted, Orchid Whisperer. No worries about the FB and emails thing. I was in the Athens area nearly ten years but discovered the NGOS only last year. Bad timing on my part!
Thank you all for the warm welcome.
