Welcome to the OB. A log cabin in the Asheville area sounds fabulous! Good luck with your relocation.

Hello!! I am an old member here (have been gone for a few years) who also used to stalk this forum LOL! I am back now, got my orchid passion reignited recently by a friend (and new member here too), so I will be back around more especially once my new haul comes in! (Hello again Orchid Whisperer! long time no see!)

So, down to the juice... I actually live 2 hours away from Asheville!! yay! An orchid neighbor! I used to keep almost every Phal species lol... and will have more soon I am sure. Welcome to orchidboard, and welcome to NC! Its great here.... and Asheville is absolutely GORGEOUS, you will love it there! I have been told to check out the Biltmore Estate sometime.... their orchid greenhouse, I have not seen it, but I intend to. I've seen the house, but not the greenhouse.. which seems to be worth going back for!!! You can buy orchids there too, but I am unclear of the variety they have. This info came from someone not as familiar with orchids as we seem to be here on this lovely forum

Pleased to 'meet' you, Island Girl. We aren't moved up that way yet but still looking. I also noticed Etowah Orchids a bit south of Asheville as a promising stalking ground. So I'll be investigating what's up in that area.

As a fellow Atlantan (Smyrna) I welcome you to this wonderful board!

As a native North Carolinian I express deep envy that you're moving to the Asheville area - Asheville is the place to be in NC!

Almost 50 years ago I first toured the Orchids at Biltmore - I was about 13 at the time. Seeing them instilled a life-long interest in the plants. It took me 8 more years to actually dare growing one but I still consider Biltmore to be the seed of my orchid obsession!

If I'm not mistaken, Owens Orchids is nearby as well, in Pisgah. I've not been there but have heard good things.

Welcome Ornery Orchids and welcome back Island Girl!

Been to Asheville once and loved the city. A great place of and for artists and foodies! I did have one inexplicable problem, no matter where or which direction we started walking, we ended up at Pritchard Park (now referred by us as the "five times around triangle")-which was okay since the oakleaf hydrangea were in bloom (also very okay were the Ten Thousand Villages shop and the Tupelo Honey cafe across the street).

Welcome to Orchidboard!

Wow, you certainly have a lot of plants, and some nice ones too (I poked around on pinterest). Your hibiscus are absolutely amazing, I didn't know that they could come in so many rainbow colors!

Thank you, Camille. I see you have some very nice orchids yourself. I used to have a lot more orchids (a number of them species plants) and other hibiscus about 20 years ago. But moving over seas and later having a child forced me to clear things out.

A ton has happened with both orchids and hibiscus since then! I've only recently gotten back into tropical hibiscus and the hybridizing has come a long way in only two decades. It stunned me.

Welcome to the board. How in the world did you ever take care of 4000 plants. My head is swimming.
