Hello from Vermont Female
Smile Hello from Vermont

Greetings,
I am starting to keep Orchids once again, years ago I use to have many but stopped for whatever reason.

Now I am starting over slowly with 6 Phalaenopsis orchids, truly my personal favorite. 4 are Little yellow boys, one Summer magic and one unknown.

I was at the Boston flower show yesterday and picked up the Summer magic there for a great price and it is a beauty with two good size branches that are partially in bloom.

The unknown is over 2 ft tall with a lovely arching shape. I felt bad for it at Lowe's and brought it home, no idea yet what color it will be.

I have had very good success with the neglected orchids I see at Lowe's and have two that have gone from horrible to having much growth and beautiful little buds.

I make no claims of being an expert, I just try to provide good basic care. All six are on a table in trays with pebbles and water, the window faces north and it seems to work for them, all are in a mix of volcanic rock, sphagnum, bark inside a clay pots with slits up the side.

This is the first time joining an Orchid site for me and I hope to ask many questions, get great suggestions and just get to know some of you on here, Barbara

Barbara
Glad you have joined us at the OB
It's nice to see you getting back to a very healthy yet addictive hobby ..
Phals are a great way to start but you'll see the many members here have many different types of orchids that you may come to love (I surely have - I started with Phals and Catts and have boardened my orchid horizons)
If you wish to post photos, let me know and I can direct you to instructions .. We love to and and at any orchid we have a chance of seeing
If you have any questions, feel free to post it in the appropriate forum - we are here to help and support any orchid lover.
Again, welcome

Hello and Welcome Barbara
Haven't been here long myself, but the OB is a very nice place to be!...very friendly indeed.
Like you, I started by buying those disgarded sad looking plants at garden centres. Most seemed to respond to a simple amount of care and from such small beginings....A love of them developed
