Thanks for having me!
Hi Everyone! I am very pleased to be here, and look forward to learning from all of you great orchid growers!
I am not completely new to orchid culture, but I am just getting back into it after a several year hiatus. I started in the hobby rather tragically, my father was an orchid keeper, with around 20 plants. He passed away from cancer and none of my other siblings wanted to take the plants. I knew how much he enjoyed them, and decided to keep them growing as a legacy. I had to learn a lot quickly about all of the different plants he kept, and it was rather overwhelming. My wife and I managed to keep them alive and healthy, and most flowering for about 6 years. We had to move to a smaller place, and unfortunately the only window space we had was north facing. Most of the plants started to decline, and we didn't have the money for artificial lights. I decided to give the plants to a local orchid keeper in hopes that the plants could thrive with better conditions.
Long story short, it's a few years later, I have a fair amount more disposable income, and I have decided to try to give it another shot. Luckily I have all of my father's orchid books, where he compiled lists of species that he was interested in. I think that is a perfect place to start!
I look forward to the journey, and I'm sure I'm in good hands here with all of the years of expertise evident in your posts.
Thanks again for having me, and sorry for the rambling post!
