Phalaenopsis Question
Default Phalaenopsis Question

Hi,

My name is Tim Abbott & just found this board. I live in Cocoa Beach, Fl . I have phalaenopsis, cattleya, vanda and cybidium plants.

My phalaenopsis plants are currently blooming. I was making a new hanger for one of them and broke off a cluster of buds on their stem.

I put the stem in water mixed with a bit of water soluble orchid food about five days ago. The buds have opened some and the stem is still green. Can I get it to spout roots this way? Should I put it in some kind of growth medium?

Thank you for any help you can give me.

Tim Abbott

Hi Tim. Welcome to the board. I do not believe you can get the flower stem to root. You may, however, get the flowers to open.
