Hi,
My name is Vanessa and I live in the USA. Specifically I live in central Texas. I raise most of my orchids in a greenhouse, but recently unflasked babies stay in special plant "cases" in my bathroom. The cases are foil cake pans with modifications to the lid so the humidity is regulated but the case is open to the air. It's something I've come up with over the years of deflasking and growing orchids.
I love oncidiums, especially trichocentrums (mule-eared oncidiums). I love dendrobium and dockrillia orchids. I love phals, big and small, species and hybrid. I've gotten a kick out of successfully growing and blooming some fluffy catts, but the waxy spotted hybrids always catch my eye. I have an odd assortment of orchids with no particular theme. Whatever grows here I am happy to try and get it to thrive and bloom. I'm not always successful, but not trying means not knowing....I can't have that
I am a chemistry professor at a local university. I'm married and we have a older cat and two feisty little parrots. My spousal unit and I have raced automobiles on tracks....f1 or grand am style tracks. We recently sold one of our race cars and are at a decision juncture as to whether or not we will stay with it at the pace we had been keeping....part of why I have been mostly absent from my online community.
I'll have to post some pictures of some pretty blooms in the right forum. I am so glad to be back!
Vanessa
