Hi
I am Vida. I live in India and am an orchid hobbyist.
I have a few orchids in my balcony now. I have killed many in the name of learning......

Hi Vida, and welcome to the Orchid Board. I've found dead orchids to be great teachers.

From the Latin vitae. A dead language but, useful to know.

Not quite! Latin is used, not only by the catholic church and science (orchid scientific names, for ex), but also in many other laguages (english, for example). Is used not as a language but by the use of latin expressions and small phrases, such as:

Ad hoc
Alibi
Bonus
Carpe diem
E.g. (exempli gratia)
Ego
Et cetera
Extra
I.e.(id est)
Intro
Multi
Semi: Half
Status quo
Versus
Vice versa

Latin is everywhere.

John, you make me smile. But wasn't that Cold Play?🤔Drat, now I have to go look...yep, you're right it's Viva la Vita. (Great for the treadmill).

Correct, but we don't speak it in conversation. Still, it is a beautiful name!
