Hi! New to forums and orchids
Default Hi! New to forums and orchids

I'm new to forums but excited to meet everyone and learn all the knowledge that is here. I bought my first orchid (a mini phal) from the store in the middle of winter when it was 10 degrees out. The flowers fell off in a few days because of the cold. I looked up how to care for it and gave it a shot. I couldn't find any small clear pots in my area, (didn't think to look on the internet until later, lol) so I made my mini phal a pot from the bottom half of a water bottle with holes drilled in the side and put it in orchid bark chips. Since then it has made 3 new leaves and many roots! It also led to an orchid addiction!

Nice to "meet" everyone and best of luck with your plants!

Welcome to the Orchid Board! I'm sure we'll learn from you here. Your potting innovation is great.

You don't have to pot an orchid in a clear pot. I use terra cotta a lot, and it's far from clear.

Welcome! Your "handle" is one of the greatest meals on this planet. Great idea on your pot, nicely done. The clear containers from a deli work great too.
