Welcome to the board! The absolute best place to learn about growing and buying orchids. There are so many experienced growers, ready to help you.
It looks as if you are a transplant too! I'm in Maryland, moved here from Texas, Michigan, Kansas and Missouri. Many different growing conditions. I actually started growing orchids with a Miltoniopsis that my husband gave to me. If not for this forum, that plant would most likely have perished some time ago. It is still growing and needs a repot!
I quickly decided if I were going to continue to collect orchids I would need to grow smaller plants and miniatures fascinated me. I went a little crazy, the little ones with their tiny blooms are just irresistible! Again, this forum has been a treasure trove of information in my collecting madness.
Neofinetia have my attention now, they are amazing and in my opinion, easy to grow. And addictive! Take your time, slow down and find the right orchid for you and your conditions. There is nothing quite like seeing a plant you have nurtured grow and flower. It is extremely rewarding. Start with a nice healthy plant and you will be surprised at the way that plant responds to your care. You will learn as you go but starting out with a plant that has been compromised is more work and far less rewarding if it survives at all.
Good luck with your plants, any questions you may have will surely be answered by several knowledgeable growers here. This forum is the best place I've found with any and all of the orchids I grow. Have fun!
