My pet peeve is the use of the term "extinct in _________"
when used by professional writers. Extinction is an absolute, like pregnancy. You either are or you aren't. Professionals who make their living with words should eschew the hyperbole that "extinct" stirs up when misused, and learn the word "extirpated"!
