To be fair, I see that all over this board. I'd reply more but sigh and don't.

And, yes, I'm a bit touchy about the replies on this thread. I came here as a refugee from a very heavy handed cliquee forum!

I wouldn't pounce on bad writing except when people specifically discuss their writing, and not their orchids.

I make mistakes. Other people make mistakes. I write to people privately here when they make significant errors that affect what I suspect they meant to say. They can then make a silent correction.

This writing is so far beyond that it could not be addressed in a message - it needs two semesters at a decent university.

I actually didn't read the excerpt. Something told me not to.

Probably the same something that usually keeps me away from the Intro forum.

Writing is something that is near and dear to my heart. Well, good writing. I know that my posts aren't always as cleanly written as I would prefer, but I think an important part of a forum such as this is the conversational tone. I'm not going to respond to "text talk" (OMG!) but I'm also not going to worry if writing here is imperfect so long as it conveys the intended point. That, however, differs from a supposed excerpt from a supposed book/novel/ideation. Were I to present a piece of writing I would want that piece to be as absolutely close to perfect as possible. What was presented by the OP was, well, not. The posts themselves, excluding the excerpt, don't make a whole lot of sense. Of course, that I'm unable to find any record of the existence of the cited title, using the wiles of a reference librarian (me) searching a much-needed rare book shouldn't provide any further doubt, should it.

I don't think we're being cliquish, though you may be right that we're piling on a bit. If the OB has any cliques, then I guess this IS high school, because I didn't know about them then, either. My intention isn't to be mean, but I also don't think you walk into a room full of strangers, spout utter nonsense, and NOT expect some feedback. However, I suspect that the OP is more interested in getting a reaction out of us than in making sense.

My favorite orchid is Phalaenopsis dementiana.

To be fair, most of us don't claim to or try to write professionally......

Okay, my two cents. Like many of you, I was trained to write well. My grades and professionalism depended on it. John and I have joked about the mistakes we often make now, real or intended. There is a big difference between formal and informal writing, as some of you have pointed out. I was taught that good grammer is perpetuated by the written language. The OP's writing is certainly in keeping with today's laxity. And, in my defense, typing on this tiny keyboard, with Google autocorrect often yields mistakes, which I sometimes don't catch.

Yes, I think you piled on a bit. However, it was all amusingly refreshing (at least to me). However, I hope we can see past the immaturity of the introduction to the creativity underneath.

Grammer?
As a non-english-native-speaker (¿non-native-english-speaker?) I am thankful to all those who write accurately and don't use abbreviations that are not obvious to foreigners. If I want to read good english I'll read books, not internet.

Over here, there are many words I have to look up before writing and when reading.

But I would never blame the keyboard.

Nor the water quality when my skills in watering are substandard ...

Fernando, it is not an excuse to blame my keyboard. I sometimes do not catch it's mistakes or mine. That is my fault. My point is, that we are not perfect and mistakes happen.

Your English and writing have always seemed impeccable to me. It is obvious that you take great care to be literate.

My wife and I are self-proclaimed "grammar police" when it comes to TV news, magazines, newspapers, and the like. If you're going to claim to be a public professional, or just act like one, the least you can do is speak and write like one.

Like John, I'm certain much of what I write here isn't up-to-par in that regard, but we all seem to be OK with that.

Sometime, some of the gaffs are hilarious. There was a newscaster in Philly that was dead serious about a case in which someone had shot and killed his neighbor's dogs, then promptly identified the breed as "Portuguese Mountain Lions."
