Introducing Myself
Default Introducing Myself

Hello from Sunny Ontario Canada

I am a newbi to Orchids and loving it. I also have a lot of house plants and a huge garden in the back of condo building along with 2 others. I am 66 years young and share a condo with my brother.

One month ago my sis in law gave me my first orchid and it is doing great with 4 new leaves that sprouted from the cent of the orchid. I dont know the name but thick dark green leaves.

Also around the same time someone left an orchid plant ( already bloomed but I said what the heck. 2nd week I saw something different that was growing from a bud. To me it looked like a molar tooth with roots lol. Well it now has 5 long hard roots and a couple of new leaves. was told it was a keiki and now there are 3 different ones. Am so excited but also unsure of what to do. Mother plant is a Phal. So many dif ways of potting it that I am confused. I put a picture in file to show you, but unsure if I did that right.

Thanks for having me and looking forward to being here and sharing.

I added the link to your photo to make it easy for members to find.

From your pic, it looks like the plant might be a Dendrobium (a so called "Den-phal" ?)
Keikis may be removed when there are at least 3" of roots, but more is better. You can pot, or mount keikis however you like / what you are most comfortable with
As far as removing them, you can carefully cut them off with a sharp blade, or gently twist them off.

Welcome! If you're like many of us, one orchid turns into two, turns into.........various degrees of addiction.

I don't see a pic, but when to pot up a keiki is more about the roots than the number of leaves.
