I am brand new to the world of orchids. I have a (according to the label) 'purple' P. Sogo David -(Dtps King Shang Beauty). (2008 - 287010) (6/12/2006 - 12/22/2006).
It does not look like any of the pictures I have found for P. Sogo David, which have shown a yellow flower with a pink center. Mine is all purple. Are there many color differences with in a name? I guess the 'purple' one the lable before the name specifies that difference. Duh!
Also what does 'dtps' mean? Does it have to do with
one of the parent plants? I have looked in more than one
website and glossery and there isn't a explanation for this term.
I hate to be such a bother, but any information would
be so helpful. Thank you so much, Marianna

Could the tag read -
P. Sogo David X Dtps King Shang Beauty?

I found off of the RHS website - Royal Horticultural Society - Plants: The International Orchid Register

Phalaenopsis Sogo David = Phalaenopsis Brother Sara Gold x Phalaenopsis Fireberry
Registrant and Originator - Sogo
Date of registration - 3/18/1999

Doritaenopsis King Shiang's Beauty = Doritaenopsis King Shiang's Coral X Doritaenopsis King Shiang's Rose
Registrant and Originator - King Shiang
Date of registration - 8/20/1993

Yours can be a unregisterd hybrid ..

A Dtps or Doritaenopsis is a moth orchid hybrid of a Phaleanopsis and a Doritis.

You are no bother - it's my pleasure

Here is a photo of 2 clones of Doritaenopsis King Shiang's Beauty - Dtps King Shiang's Beauty #1 pictures from gardens photos on webshots
Dtps King Shiang's Beauty #2 pictures from gardens photos on webshots
and Phal David Sogo from one of our members - http://www.orchidboard.com/community...avid-mini.html
Ok, now you ask more questions to clear your confusion ..

Thank you for the photos. The 1 and 2 photos of King Shang Beauty are very much like the orchid I have.
The P. Sogo David is not. (mine are not yellow) So where does that name come from? One of the parents?
Also I am guessing that the Dtps is short for Doritaenopsis.
