I am a semi-noob in orchid culture. Thus far my collection is solely Phalaenopsis brought in by my wife whom works at a senior care facility. Don't laugh....I have accumulated about 20 thus far!

The basic scenario is that they come to me in varying conditions, I remove them from the grocery store pots of death and place them in the orchid medium over a humidity tray and they do well. I never knew orchids were this easy. I am fortunate that Orchids, Limited is only a hop and a jump from my home in Minnesota

Now I am in Iowa, caring for my brother with stage 4 Lymphoma. He had been a long time fancier of many herps which have now found new homes and I find myself with my choice of multiple empty terrariums.....I think we all know the direction this is going . The terrarium that has caught my eye is a 36x36x24 exoterra. I have read many posts in the terrarium forum and am trying to decide what direction to go. There are so many options. At this point, I feel it wise to build on the current background, install a mister, and get it ready to plant. The actual planting should probably wait until I get back home. So, currently, I am in the planning stages and looking for ideas as to where to proceed. I'm thinking a mix of minis and 2-3 mid-sized orchids.

There is a basement full of other exoterra and other assorted terrariums as well.....I think I am in trouble

Welcome to the Orchid Board!

With enclosed planters like aquariums it's extremely important to provide good air movement. Idle air leads to bacterial and fungal infections.

I am already planning on installing 3-4 computer fans. Brought 4 orchids down to brighten things up a bit, one is a little purple number of which I have several. It is likely to be a guinea pig for my initial attempts at growing in a terrarium

Welcome! Your sacrifice for your family is admirable. I too have rescued and returned Phals to my mil's nursing home. One of our members reblooms them and gifts them out again.

Good luck on your terrariums. You will get lots, and I do mean lots, of advice here.

Terrarium has a nicely textured cork background that will accommodate mounts, fake shelf fungi mounts with ferro magnets to mount on glass have feeding stations that will be re-purposed. I am so in trouble. Some early thoughts are Haraella retrocalla, Encyclia (syn. Dinema) polybulbon, and Paph. bellatulum

Welcome! There is a forum here for terrariums. Look in the left menu, Forums, then look down for Terrariums. You can learn a lot reading how other people have done it.

I have been going through it to gain a plan, you are correct....it is chock full of information. I will likely gravitate over to it soon, Tindamul has a lot of advice, I am sure
