hello orchid lovers
hello everyone, im new in this forum.. i would like to introduce myself.. im a 22 year old male from california who has recently gain an interest in these lovely, beautiful and mysterious plants.. WHY? because they just look so beautiful its hard to resis but to stare at them.. my first encounter with orchids was last year when i received a dendrobium orchid as a gift.. i knew nothing bout the plant except that it had wonderful blooms!! i was fascinated also because the plant likes to live on fir birk and not on soil..i thought it was unique.. the whole idea and concept of orchids to me was a beautiful presentation from nature... so there goes my reason why im into orchids

WELCOME TOKI
Glad you have joined us at the OB
Ok so you got one dendro last year .. so how many do you have now? It sounds like you have been bitten by the orchid bug .. perhaps have the epiphytic itch .. well, don't you worry now .. you are amongst many with the same affliction - and we are all here to support each other through the dry times until the purchase of our next orchid
Welcome and enjoy the board
If you have any questions, please ask

Welcome from me 2. On the Dendrobium, just keep in mind, for lots of folks they just do that! Dendros seem to be tempermental at best. I have had great luck with a type II Dendro called D. anosmum, but my luck with others has been dismal.
The phals should be easier to deal with (in my experience.) Glad you chose to join and hope to see your posts in the future.

Welcome! I have only been a member here for a short time too. I like the site a lot and enjoy sharing information with others who have been bitten by the desire to cultivate orchids! The people are friendly and are so very helpful. I've been a hobbyist for a few years now and my colection is now over 100 orchid plants. I find them at HD, Lowe's, a local nursery and at the orchid society's show and sale twice a year. There are a few on-line sources that I've also had very good luck with. I really don't specialize in any one particular type but seem to have many phals, dens, and catts. Love the minis and the more unusual plants, too.
Have fun discussing everyone's passion here!

Welcome to orchid paradise!
Might want to start saving up your pennies for an Exo-Terra terrarrium.
Sure you only have one? orchid now (may the Den. RIP. . LOL) but pretty soon you're going to find out about miniature orchids and weird orchids and how many colors they come in. . .you're going to want a "collection".
And then, and here we come around to my point, you're going to need a place to keep them, ooogle them, and protect them.
P.S. Edited to add: I ONLY have 78 orchids. . .a mere pittance.
