I'm new!

Hola.
I'm a new orchid owner. Let me begin by saying, I have no idea what I'm doing! I've attached a picture of my orchid...her name is Aoefie. If anyone sees anything that looks troublesome, please let me know. She was a gift from my boyfriend.

the phal looks great to me too, and as royalorchids said, no direct sun (but u can get away with it, i put mines in direct MORNING sun and itz fine) but nonetheless one little note, for the lowest leaf, i see u have some of the bark covering the place where the leaf joins the stem; try to not do that--can encourage 'unwanted' growths ^^ one can have the leaf sit on the bark, but the other way around aint the best =) happy surfing

Hi there. Thanks for the bark removal advice. Here's the deal: I have some roots that stick up and out, and when I recently transplanted, I was trying to get them back under the bark. Those roots (that stick out) are very dried up and brown. What do I do? I don't want to cover the leaves either, but the roots need to be under, right?

well there's 2 main things u can opt to do.

(1) leave the roots--a lot of us have phal roots growing out of the medium, just the way these guys are. in the wild these roots would be hugging the tree and they aint hiding under anything =) they might dry out or they might not depending how dry its location is, but if they have lot of roots in the pot, i wouldn't worry

(2) get a little moss and cover the top of ur bark, that will help increase the moisture around the roots so they dun try out.

here's a prime example of roots growing outside the medium. this person comes from florida so itz more humid, but none the less it could be done http://www.orchidboard.com/community...p?searchid=811
