Patti here from inside the Tahoe National Forest in Northern California. I contracted severe and chronic orchid fever in the early eighties. A hobby grower, I try to keep my collection small enough to give individual care to each one but always manage to come with a reason why I need just one more. First forum ever and looking forward to first person anecdotes on cultural challenges and their solutions. I'm currently experimenting with all the natural mounting materials and mosses available to me right out my back door. Don't worry, no valuable specimens will be sacrificed. My first test subjects will be economical seedlings. Looking forward to meeting you all.
Patti

Welcome Patti

I've never mounted any orchid so, as you can see, we have a lot of varied people around here.
But we are all great persons! Aren't we, my friends?

Chronic Orchid fever... sounds familiar. I suspect Orchids have evolved to survive by releasing some kind of addictive pheromone that makes us want to care for them. Good to meet you.

Thanks everyone, so many warm welcomes. You proved me right in guessing that the orchid growing community would be kind and generous. Once I familiarize myself with the format I'll probably be brave enough to actually participate. Potting up a flask of Encyclia Fragrans this week. My first time with flask seedlings. Hopefully by next fall I'll have children to find homes for.
