Hello from Orchid Addict in New Jersey
I've always had Tropicals, Succulents and other "friends", but it wasn't until April 24th of this year that I discovered Orchids for myself, and quickly learned how addicting they are!
I decided at the get-go that I would write down every detail about each Orchid as new events with them happened, along with taking pictures to correspond with the notes. This quickly became a passion and the best distraction (for me) from life's bumpy roads. Spending time with my Orchids, and learning everything I can about them, has become my form of meditation.
It was my oldest son who came up with the idea of putting my Orchid journal on the web, which I am doing. This quickly brought my written words to life in a way I never imagined!
I am currently owned by 16 Phals and one Oncidium, along with several Crown of Thorns, Jades, Carnivorous plants, Oleander, Rope Hoya, Christmas Cactus, Kalanchoe, Aloe, Pineapple, Lemon Seedlings, Avocadoes and Peace Lilies.
I look forward to learning from others, as well as sharing to help others. Thank you for allowing me this opportunity to be a part of such a great Orchid community.

Hello and welcome! It sounds like you are very busy with your orchids and your journal. Funny how we all began with that one gorgeous bloom. I've been growing orchids for about three years, my first was a Miltoniopsis from my husband...I thought he was crazy as I have grown many houseplants through the years, never an orchid!
I added a Phal, then a Oncidium and after finding this forum and miniature orchids, it was all over. I've been addicted to minis since. They are adorable, fit wonderfully into windowsills and containers and you can have so many more due to their tiny size. The tiny blooms are a true wonder of nature.
You've come to the right forum, enjoy!

Welcome to this wonderful site! Your enthusiasm for this healthy addiction is just what I enjoy reading about. Life can bring many unexpected and troubling distractions but I think pets and plants offer us so much and ask so little in return. Your blog is such a nice read as well.

Welcome to the OB. Soon you'll find an irresistible urge to "meet" other genera. Do you have any available space outdoors?

I can always find extra space outdoors; however, the time is nearing where all my plants have already come inside for the winter!

Oh yes, the fun of bringing all the plants inside and finding a place for them to spend the winter.... It is what limits the number of plants that I can have. :| All my non-hardy plants are inside, now.
