I can always find extra space outdoors; however, the time is nearing where all my plants have already come inside for the winter!

I see... winter (and sometimes summer) is always a limitation.

Ahh, a true plant lover. Welcome to the Orchid Board.
Ok, so I am interested in your Avocados. Where and how are you growing them?
And I could never bloom a christmas cactus. Too many lights in my house.

I know...it's such a bittersweet time of the year, but at least I am surrounded by green and colorful beauty inside while it's bitter cold and snowing outside! NOT YET though ...

Thank you for the welcome Tindomul.
At this point, I have two Avocados that I grew from seeds. One is in soil and the second one is in semi-hydro...both doing very well. You can see them in the picture below.
I have 3 little Christmas Cactus cuttings from my mom she sent up to me in May....they are growing SO SLOW! ugghhhh

Thankfully, most plants are not as light-sensitive as Christmas cacti.

OMG, I wanted to grow my avocado seed in Semi-hydro, but ended up with a rotten seed. Now I am trying to root one with the cup with water method, then transfer it to S/H. How long does it take to get a root out of one of these suckers??

Welcome to the Orchid Board!
Avocado seeds can take many many many months to sprout. I planted some in an outdoor bed this spring. They sprouted last week.

They respond to lots of fertilizer during warm weather. You should be surprised at how fast they're growing.
Long nights do, indeed, trigger them to bloom. But - they are also triggered to bloom by 4-6 weeks of night temperatures below 55 F / 5C regardless of night length. They are unharmed by low night temperatures so long as they don't freeze.
Single stem segment cuttings may be rooted in tiny water containers. Many are patented, and it is illegal to propagate these. Check the label.

I just plant the seeds in a soil mix of peat, perlite and sand and they grow. They are pretty easy.
Papaya, dates and mangos sprout easily from seed, too. Like with the avocados, though, I only grow these for a while as the trees would need to get too large for the home before they produce fruit.
If you want a good one for container growing, Logees (They are in Connecticut) sells Avocado Day (already sprouted).
