Hi. My wife and I live near Chicago. I've had a lifetime of growing things inside and out after a greenhouse work study job in college. I started growing orchids after a gift house warming orchid 10 years ago. Got deeper into after visiting Hausermann's Orchid sale and show soon after. Had a big disaster in 2012 thanks to a full house remodel and the accompanying fine alkaline plaster/dry wall dust and lost about half of my collection of Phals. Created an incubator setup in 2014 to house them when not in bloom. Have started delicately branching into Catalayas, Dendrobiums, and Oncidiums. I have about 25 orchids total.

Welcome. If you haven't checked out Illinois Orchid Society I would encourage you to do so. They meet monthly at the Chicago Botanic Gardens. At a time when many orchid societies are struggling, I think they're still going strong - workshops, guest speakers, and a show coming up in October.

Welcome!

You invite one orchid from a distant country to join your life, and before you know it, all the relatives are clamoring to come live with you.
