Default Hi I'm totally new to this, having some issues

I have had my plant for about 3-4 weeks, it has bloomed nicely, but I took a look at the roots today and they were all black and squishy, so I cut the dead part of and put some mulch at the bottom of my clay pot (one singe hole at the bottom) and took it out of it's plastic hold (It was a gift and possibly store bought). I think I over-watered it... What should I do?

Is that a picture of it now? If so, it looks as though you have some healthy root left.

These grow on trees, roots exposed to humid air. The medium's purpose is just to keep the air around the roots humid. You can use any medium that accomplishes this in your environment.

If you need to get roots growing, try a seaweed/kelp mixture. I bought some on Amazon last year when i had a few rootless orchids. They all survived.

I grow my Phals in red lava rock and basket pots as I tend to either not water enough or water too much with other mediums. :|

ya I just took that. There is a lot of root and it's like wrapped around the median. It looks like a bulb is growing. Do these take long to flower?

Phalaenopsis take forever to flower but the flowers last a long time, often nearly three months. After the first flush of blooms finish, often more will grow from the same spike so you get another two or three months of blooms. They are nice for that reason. Some of them need cooler temperatures in the autumn (not below sixty Fahrenheit, though) to initiate new blooms. Good luck!
