Cirr. macroleum+ Hey everyone!! Male
Default Cirr. macroleum+ Hey everyone!!

Hey everyone. Ive read that this site is pretty BA..in which case i hope someone will able to give me a hand with something.

I set up my first terrarium for dart frogs a few months and its wicked nice...but missing an orchid. until recently when i went to the annual New hampshire orchid society show. i bought myself an orchid that the seller told me would do alright in high humidity and moderate light.

It is..."Cirr. macrolem". which means absolutely nothing to me. the bulb i have on my viv is 6500 K that i believe is rated at 1300 lumen. humidity is at 99% all day due to moving water. it also has good air movement. not to the point where ferns are swaying in the breeze. but the front glass is clear and you can feel moving air in your face...my recirc is mounted on the back and piped in through the lid.

My question is if anyone has some concrete information on this orchid. the seller didnt really seem to know all that much about it. heres a pic.

Ive since moved the orchid south. just the bottom corner is touching water in that picture. but since the cork bark is fairly porous it would not dry out at all. since moving it is will dry out to the point where the tree fern is damp rather than soaked. everything feels fine. nothing is soggy by any means.

Hey thanks a lot everyone..

-Nate

Hi Nate! We are practically neighbors! I just want to say welcome. I don't know anything about this particular orchid, but someone will help you, I'm sure.
I like the set-up you have. Again, welcome! kiki

Hi and

I checked Orchidwiz and there are no orchids at all named macroleum. Could you check the name and spelling again? If I get the right name, I can give you some growing info.

I got it from "mountain orchids" in ludlow, VT if that helps. it says Cirr. macroleum on the tag.

Hi Nate

I checked again and the only thing that comes close is:
Bulbophyllum macrocoleum

Many times, tags are incorrect...it's a source of irritation to all of us but is quite common, it seems

The care listed for Bulbophyllum macrocoleum is sparce:
Medium light and Intermedite/Warm temps.

Sorry I couldn't help you more. Try doing a search using the name I've given you...maybe something will come up.
